Q. What are the requirements for my computer system to use MSJC Remote Apps?

A. To use MSJC Remote Apps, your computer must be running at least Internet Explorer 6.0 and a version of Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) that supports at least Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.1. To determine the RDP version that RDC supports, open Remote Desktop Connection, click the icon in the upper-left corner of the Remote Desktop Connection dialog box, and then click About. The RDP version that RDC supports is listed in the About Remote Desktop Connection dialog box. RDC 6.1 supports Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1. RDC 6.1 is included with the following operating systems: Windows Server 2008 Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 (SP1) Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3) The version of RDC in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 supports RDP 7.0. Additionally, the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX Client control must be enabled. The ActiveX control is included with RDC 6.1 and the version of RDC in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. The version of RDC that you are using determines which features of MSJC Remote Apps are available to you. MSJC Remote Apps will not work with Mac computers at this time.

Q. How do I get a username and/or password for MSJC Remote Apps?

A. You are enrolled in a class section that allows access to MSJC Remote Apps, you will automatically be granted access. You're username will be your Blackboard ID, and your password will be your MSCJ student ID number.

Q. Why am I asked to log in more than once?

A. You must meet the following set of conditions for a one time log in scenario. 1) Run Windows 7 with IE 8. 2) Select “Private Computer” at the apps.msjc.edu website. Once logged into the website, you will not have to authenticate again UNLESS you wish to open a full desktop RDP session. If you have not met the above conditions, for example, the user is running an older Operating System or an older browser, then you will have to login again.

Q. Where are my files saved?

A. Each student will be provided with a small storage share on our computer network. This share accessible anywhere they have internet access, when they launch a session with our servers. The default saving location for all Microsoft applications available through MSJC Remote is under 'My Documents'. The 'My Documents' folder you see when saving files from theses apps is on the remote MSJC servers that you are connecting to, not the 'My Document' folder on the local computer that you are using. Third party application users have to browse to My Documents from the applications file save menu.

Q. How long will MSJC Remote Apps save my files?

A. For as long as you are a student at MSJC.

Q. How big is my personal storage space?

A. 250 MB

Q. At what times is the MSJC Remote Apps available?

A. The servers which provide remote application sessions are available 24/7, unless scheduled for maintenance.

Q. When and what type of support is available?

A. Support request can also be submitted at anytime from anywhere with an Internet connection. You can submit an electronic request though Here

However, our ability to respond to requests is limited to Monday thru Friday, 7:30 am – 7:30 pm. We also only provide support with regards to issues directly related to using MSJC Remote Apps.

Q. How can I transfer the files from my USB Flash Drive to the MSJC Remote App system and vice versa?

A. Click on the 'My Documents' link on the MSJC Remote Apps page. It will open the folder that contains the files you have store on MSJC Remote Apps files. Then open 'My Computer' on your computer. Browse to your USB flash drive, and then copy the files from your flash drive to the 'My Documents' folder, or you can copy files from your 'My Documents' to your flash drive.
